# Introduction

## What is the FreeFlix Media Network?

FreeFlix Media Network is the blockchain network for creators to utilize the web3 infrastructure to create a **social economy**, manage media within the community using the **media infrastructure** and exchange assets using the **on-chain public/private marketplace**.

FreeFlix Media Network is powered by the **FreeFlix Media Hub**.

## Why the name FreeFlix?

The ***free*** in FreeFlix stands for **freedom**.

The ***flix*** in FreeFlix represents **creative content (aka flicks or flix)**

Putting them together, FreeFlix, with the software and the network, provides *creators, studios and agencies*; the infrastructure and tools to *manage*, *distribute* and *monetize* content and social presence, by providing the tools to interact and eventually convert *audience* to *community members to super-fans*!

## What lead to the creation of FreeFlix Media?

When the founders were working with a media organization a few years back (around 2015), in the acquisition, distribution and monetization; there were many moving parts to a fairly linear process.

This lead us to think about potential ways in which we could address the problems of:

* creator owned audience
* creator owned content
* audience powered content creation/development

## What is the FreeFlix Media Hub?

FreeFlix Media Hub is the blockchain that is powered by the security of the $FLIX token. The FreeFlix Media Hub runs on the bPOS consensus similar to the [**Cosmos Network**](https://cosmos.network) ($ATOM). This blockchain network contains data of the various public assets, interactions and transactions related to marketplace or media consumption activities across the network.

As **FreeFlix Media Hub** is the blockchain on which the FreeFlix Media Network runs, blocks produced in the blockchain contain all transactions pertaining to the network. Block proposers of the FreeFlix Media Hub are called ***Validators*** (who play a role, similar to miners in the Bitcoin blockchain network or the Ethereum blockchain network).
